Individial

Girl Skateboard was founded in August 1993 by Rick Howard, Mike Carroll, Megan Baltimore, Spike Jonze (Boardary, 2024). Girl Skateboard is known to market itself to be the usual go-to for those who want to try skateboarding for the first time. It is beginner friendly and offers unique designs, some of which are from collaborations with artists.

As a collaboration with Girl Skateboard, we released a limited edition Halloween collection featuring three iconic monsters: the vampire, the witch and , the werewolf. Despite being called Girl Skateboard, the brand has still not released a design that features women, which is why this collaboration shall serve as a fun series that will hopefully encourage women artists to express themselves as well.

Process Work

The brand is very experimental with their designs and often opting for modern/contemporary art for their boards (excluding the collaboration with Sanrio), so the most reasonable direction will be going for a modern design as well. However, with the origins of the brand name, I believe they can benefit from designs that focus on the feminine audiences; as they have only done masculine-leaning designs so far.

Inspired by popular media in the early 2000s, I was opting to go for a Powerpuff Girls x Girl Skateboard collaboration but opted to do my own original characters since this is a collaboration that I hope to achieve in the future. The theme for the skateboard is Halloween as I aim to have this to be released as a limited collection for the brand.
